Settings Overview
You can access your settings by clicking the ⚙️ in the top-right corner of the Diskover user interface.
⚠️ IMPORTANT! Your settings are specific to the browser you’re using. Even if you share an account, your personal choices—like how columns look or what display options you prefer—are saved as cookies in that browser.
If you switch browsers (for example, from Chrome to Firefox), you’ll need to select your settings again.
After some software updates, your cookies may be cleared, resetting your settings to Diskover’s defaults.
Choosing Clear Cookies will also reset your settings.
Good news! There aren’t many settings to reselect, and updating them only takes a moment.
For more details, see Clear Diskover Cookies and Clear Diskover Cache.

This section shows:
Your Username
-
Your role/access level, which determines what you can do in Diskover:
Admin user: full access to setup and configuration options.
Authentication type.
Task panel user: system admin/technical user.
You can change your password at any time by clicking Change Password and entering your current and new passwords.
Time Display
You can choose whether Diskover shows times in UTC or your local time zone.
We recommend selecting Show times in local timezone so indexing times and file timestamps are easier to understand.

File Size Display
Diskover offers a few ways to display file sizes—they represent the same information, just calculated in different ways. By default, Diskover uses the traditional computer binary system calculation where 1 KB = 1,024 bytes.
Use decimal system base-10 (1000) instead of binary system base-2 (1024): Uses the calculation commonly used by storage vendors, where 1 KB = 1,000 bytes. Your selection will be automatically saved.
File size decimals: Controls how many decimal places are shown when displaying file sizes. Diskover’s default is 1 decimal place—you can adjust it to your preference, then click Set to save.
Use size_du (allocated size) instead of size for charts and file tree sizes: Displays the actual disk space used on storage, which may differ from the file’s logical size. This is useful when working with filesystems that use features such as hardlinks or block allocation differences. Your selection will be automatically saved.
Search File Tree
By default, the file tree in the results pane is sorted alphabetically.
If you prefer to sort the file tree by size, simply check the box.
Your selection will be saved automatically.
Filter Charts
By default, filters do not affect the charts you see on the search page or dashboard.
If you’d like your filters to also update the charts and dashboard, check Use filters on charts.
Your selection saves automatically.
Use Predictive Search
Turn this on if you want Diskover to automatically expand your search using the * wildcard pattern, without needing to type * in the search bar.
⚠️ IMPORTANT! Using this setting may return many additional and/or unwanted results.
Your selection(s) will be saved automatically.

⬜️ Unchecked boxes: The columns are visible.
✅ Checked boxes: The columns are hidden.
Your selection(s) will be saved automatically.

✏️ All the core metadata fields are the same for everyone. You may see additional fields (extra metadata) depending on your organization’s configuration.
Path Translations for Copying Paths
Depending on how Diskover is configured and on your operating system, you may need to adjust your path translation when copying paths.
-
For example, a Unix-style path using forward slashes / can be translated into a Windows-style path using backslashes \\,
Turning →
/isilon1/data/dm/tools/staging_files.xlsInto →
\\isilon1\data\dm\tools\staging_files.xls.
If you select any path translations, click Set to save.
